Once it has your location, the app will find all charging stations within a radius of 100 kilometers. Your smartphone’s location positioning function needs to be turned on in order to use “Charge&Pay for Mercedes-Benz.” You can turn this on at any time under your smartphone’s data privacy settings. “Charge&Pay for Mercedes-Benz” only accesses the positioning function when you are using the app.
You can also use the search function at any time or move and zoom the map in order to view all charging stations in the vicinity of a location of your choosing. After selecting a charging station, the app displays the operator, price information and exact address. If you need help navigating to the selected charging station, you can also ask the app to display directions to the station you have selected.
What should I do if I have trouble finding the charge spot shown on the app?
If you are having difficulties, we recommend using the app’s built-in navigation to find the charging point. Don’t search for it by address (street name and house number), as the geo positioning used by the Charge&Pay for Mercedes-Benz app is much more precise. Therefore, it is possible that you won’t be able to find the street address, but the navigation function is sure to guide you to your destination.
In addition, it may be that your own GPS position is not displayed very precisely in the app. Depending on which smartphone you are using, you can usually adjust the GPS accuracy in the settings.
Can the app show me whether a charging station is available or already being used?
Yes, simply by looking at the overview on the map you can tell by the color of the charging station symbol what its current status is: at charging stations with a green plug symbol at least one charging point is available. Charging stations marked with a red plug symbol are occupied. Grey shaded plug symbols represent charging stations, which have no information on availability (e.g. failure). After selecting a charging station, in addition to details of the operator, prices and address, the app also indicates exactly how many charging points are available.
Can I reserve a charging station?
Currently, it is not possible to reserve the selected electric charging station. This service will be available in the near future, however, insofar as the infrastructure of the specific operator is compatible with the service.
What do I do if I discover on arrival that the desired charging station is out of operation or occupied?
Please contact our customer service department for assistance. They can give you information on the cause, possible ways to fix it, or alternative stations: +49 (0)30 991 918 745 or by e-mail .
Do I have to bring my own charging cable or are there cables at the charging stations?
The driver needs to bring a charging cable with a Type 2 (IEC 62196 Type 2) plug. It is not possible to carry out the charging operation without a charging cable, as the charging stations are not equipped with cables.
Can I start the charging process using just a smartphone?
Yes, for customers’ protection, starting the charging process is only possible via the app. This prevents the hotline from seeing the confidential PayPal account information.
How long does the charging process take?
This varies from vehicle to vehicle – depending on the battery and the battery’s status.
How do I start and end the charging operation?
As with the station search, the charging operation is carried out directly via the app. Upon arrival at the charging station, connect the vehicle to the charging station using the charging cable. Use the app to select the desired charging point and confirm payment via PayPal once. The charging operation will then start automatically.
Depending on the charging station operator, the process can also be carried out in the opposite order as needed, since in some cases access to the charging point is locked until usage begins (e.g. at ladenetz.de stations). In this case, simply use the app to first select the desired charging station and start the corresponding charging point. The point will then unlock and direct you to plug in the cable.
When is the charging operation ended?
The charging operation is over when it is stopped manually in the app. The charging operation does not stop automatically when the battery has been fully charged. Please note that parking your vehicle at a charging station while not making use of the charging service may be prohibited or incur a charge, depending on the regulations of the specific charging station operator or other local parking regulations.
Can I extend the time of the charging operation from my smartphone?
If the operation was interrupted, it is possible to extend the time from your smartphone.
How long do I have after the charging operation is stopped to move my vehicle from the parking area?
You need to remove your vehicle from the charging station parking area immediately after the charging operation has been completed. Please note that parking your vehicle at a charging station while not making use of the charging service may be prohibited or incur a charge, depending on the regulations of the specific charge spot operator or other local parking regulations.
What am I supposed to do if an error message appears while starting the charging operation ?
Sometimes a charging station may react with a delay if it is in stand-by mode or if internet reception is poor. This will result in the app showing the error message “Command could not be transmitted to charging station.” It’s a good idea to first simply try to start the charging operation again via the app; you do not need to reconnect the charging cable.
How safe is the charging process?
The integrated charging stations are tested by the responsible charging station operator to ensure that all statutory regulations are complied with and thus offer satisfactory safety levels.
Do I have to pay a basic fee and are there any additional costs?
No, there is no basic fee for using “Charge&Pay for Mercedes-Benz.” The only charges incurred are for the charging time used. This is the time between starting and stopping the charging operation, counted to the minute, and is calculated independent of the amount of electricity actually consumed (see also Section 6 of the Conditions of Use). A minimum fee of € 0.50 is due for each charging operation.
How are prices calculated?
When you call up a battery-charging point on the map, the total price per hour is displayed, including VAT. Pricing is clear and transparent; there are no additional hidden costs.
Price per hour is calculated based on:
Why is there a mandatory minimum payment of €0.50 for each charging process?
In general, billing is calculated to the minute based on the utilized charging time. This covers the time between starting and stopping the charge process. Independent of the actual charging time utilized, PayPal calculates a minimum fee for every direct payment. If you charge only for a very short time – for instance, less than would cost €0.50 – the minimum payment of €0.50 (including VAT) covers the PayPal fee.
Why am I charged by hour and not for the amount of electricity consumed?
Every charge spot operator calculates the price for usage of their charging points themselves. In addition to the cost of the electricity, this includes costs such as fees for parking space rental at the charging station, statutory electricity tax plus EEG surcharge as well as costs for installing and maintaining the charging infrastructure.
There is an additional service fee of € 0.70 per hour excl. statutory VAT for the user-friendly app service across providers, including all roaming fees incurred by Bosch Software Innovations as well as the charging of the payment transaction via PayPal in the amount of approximately € 0.50 per hour (price varies depending on charging station operator). All prices shown in the app are gross prices and incl. VAT.
Why is a charge of € 1 made on PayPal confirmation and then canceled again?
When you give your approval that PayPal payments be made to Bosch Software Innovations, a charge of € 1 is made to your PayPal account and is then immediately credited back to you. You can see this in your PayPal account via the note “Canceled.” This allows us to ascertain that there are no technical impediments for integrating your PayPal account and that starting immediately you can use “Charge&Pay for Mercedes-Benz” with no difficulties. The € 1 cancelation booking is noted in your PayPal account for your information only. It will not be shown in any of the accounts of the payment methods linked to your PayPal account, such as credit card or direct debit.
How do I cancel my PayPal permission?
If you want to process payments for charging your vehicle using the app, you have to grant permission to be billed via your PayPal account. You can cancel this permission at any time by following this link .
How do I compare the price to other operators?
Using public charging infrastructure generally has higher costs in direct comparison with a charging station not operated as part of a network (e.g. a home wallbox), since in addition to the cost of the electricity consumption itself, the operators must also finance the cost of installation and operation of the charging infrastructure as well as the rental of the parking spaces, among other things.
It is also possible that operators of regionally more limited charging station services are able to offer lower-cost options. The provision of an interregional service entails higher administrative and maintenance expense, which is financed via the app’s small service fee. In return, you benefit from greater flexibility, a higher level of transparency, and have at your fingertips a solution that offers the consistently high quality from a single, no-hassle source. Meaning you can simply sit back and enjoy the ride, even on longer journeys outside your home region.
How secure is the payment transaction?
PayPal payment transactions are secure. No information that would allow unauthorized parties to derive information about your PayPal account is saved locally to your smartphone. PayPal has been tested by TÜV Saarland and approved as a secure method of online payment.
Why are there exceptional cases where payment is not made directly via the app?
The market for electric mobility is still young and developing continually. This includes expanding the network of web-enabled charging stations. In an effort to offer our customers charging opportunities in as many regions as possible, we have integrated a few charging station operators in the app whose charging stations are not yet web-enabled but are planned to be in the near future. Unfortunately, with these charging stations the status currently cannot be checked dynamically and payment cannot be made via the app. Integration of the app functions that are not currently available is planned for these charging stations for the future, however.
Do I have to conclude a contract with every charge spot operator?
No, you only need to complete a one-time registration with Bosch Software Innovations. Bosch maintains contractual relationships will all the various charge spot operators.
Am I committed to a specific contract period or can I be completely flexible?
You are not committed to any contract period and retain complete flexibility for deciding your charging needs and which charging stations to use.
Can I test out the app and then delete it?
You can uninstall “Charge&Pay for Mercedes-Benz” at any time, as there is no contractual commitment and no basic fee.
When will I receive an invoice and in what form?
