Bosch Software Innovations, the Bosch Group’s software and systems house, and KNIME.com, provider of the only open platform for data-driven innovation, today announced that they will work together to allow data mining and data analytics for Internet of Things (IoT) applications.
To leverage the business value of big data, Bosch Software Innovations will integrate KNIME technology into the next version of its Bosch IoT Suite. The Bosch Software Innovations IoT platform will allow domain experts, data scientists, and IoT system integrators to realize new solutions based on big data mining and analytics. This new feature set targets the exploration and exploitation of data collected from different sources, i.e. device events, device and/or customer master data, and process data. Depending on the use case, these data sources may be augmented by, for instance, data from social media or other web services.
“The value of Internet of Things applications can be fully realized only when high-performance data analytics is included – making it possible to detect patterns in massive volumes of data and to adjust services accordingly. The challenge is to manage the limitations of current technologies with respect to growing data volumes and increasing velocity in order to meet the requirements for big data analysis.” says Dr.-Ing. Rainer Kallenbach, CEO of Bosch Software Innovations.
Data generated by sensors and other distributed devices can quickly add up to massive volumes; all this data has to be collected, aggregated, and analyzed by a backend system to unlock the value of device data for IoT applications. Generating business value out of this data will be a key challenge for all companies involved in what are known as IoT ecosystems, in which different partners cooperate to provide new services to business customers and end users.
“KNIME’s data analytics capabilities – in combination with a scalable, flexible, and secure data management system and the market-proven Bosch IoT Suite – will allow customers to extract key insights from the numerous large, heterogeneous data sets that lie at the heart of many Internet of Things applications,” says Prof. Dr. Michael Berthold, President of Knime.com AG.
