Transparent production processes that are monitored and documented in real time – these are essential in manufacturing today. They make it possible to quickly respond to anomalies in the production process when manufacturing safety-critical products and components, such as those for cars. This upstream quality assurance step reduces rework costs. What’s more, the transparency and systematic analysis of the production process make it easier for manufacturers to detect error trends early on and contain causes. The Process Quality Manager by Bosch Software Innovations combines these requirements, helping to steadily increase productivity, decrease costs, and accelerate production ramp-ups.

In practice: safety-critical tightening processes

To meet strict quality requirements of the kind found in the automotive industry, all parameters of a production process should be monitored and separately documented. The Bosch software solution makes this possible with its filters and user-friendly structure.

When used in safety-critical tightening processes, for example, the solution can quickly provide an overview of all tightening operations. A variety of views are available for analyzing these processes. In addition to the tightening curve, further types of assessment facilitate systematic analyses of the completed tightening applications and help detect trends early.

This data is then stored in the database in real time and visualized in the web-based user interface. There, experts have direct access to the tightening process and can intervene if necessary. The product ID and tightening tool ID for every completed tightening events are stored in the database. This information is particularly relevant in the case of errors in the tightening process that make it necessary to identify which tightening system was used on which component and when, as well as which process parameters governed the tightening event.

First customer project

An automotive manufacturer is currently deploying the Process Quality Manager with the Bosch Rexroth Tightening System 350 in its engine and transmission production operations. The tightening system supplies data on the torque and rotation angle processes.

Designed to interact with other tightening systems as well, the Process Quality Manager can be used in conjunction with any manufacturer’s systems. Further applications for the software solution include other safety-critical joining processes or welding and pump control.

The Process Quality Manager will premiere at the Hannover Trade Fair, April 13-17, 2015, at the joint booth for Bosch Software Innovations and Bosch Rexroth in Hall 7/E04.
